HDMI "Pass-through" when receiver is off; 5.1 setup with 7.1 receiver

I have a quick and trivial question before purchasing a new receiver.

(I am considering either a Denon 1910 or Pioneer VSX-1019)

Is it possible to have the receiver "pass-through" the HDMI signal when the receiver is turned off? Sometimes when watching basic programs through DirecTV, we don't want to turn on the whole surround sound setup.

Can either of those receivers above allow the HDMI signal to pass-through when it's off?

If not, is there an easy way to quickly switch between TV speakers and the surround sound setup?

The TV in question is a Sony KDL60EX700.

ALSO,

For confirmation, I can continue to use a 5.1 setup on a 7.1 receiver?

As of now, a 5.1 speaker setup is practical, but we are still considering the 7.1 receiver.

Can't speak for the Pio, but ALL 2010 Denon AVRs (including the 1910) offer HDMI pass through as a feature when the AVR is in Standby. Although an alternate configuration you can do with any AVR is to simply connect the HDMI from the DirecTV box to the TV with and optical cable to the AVR for when you want to use the surround speakers.

Also, although an AVR might be capable of 7.1, you can connect as few as 2 front speakers only for a 2.0 setup if you choose.

Have you set "Standby Through" to ON? (See User Manual, page 42.}

Don't know about the 565, but I know for the V663, I can confirm that a set-top box DOES NOT pass through in standby mode. Unless there's a setting that needs to be done. I have a Cox Cable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4240HDC connected to it, so if anyone out there has a similar setup, how should I proceed with the HTR-6160 (which is the RX-V663, btw)?
